President's Message

Dr. Mitaxari K Hugar

My dear members of IADVL,
It gives me an immense pleasure to take over as the 1st lady president of IADVL-KN . I sincerely thank all of you for posing faith in me and giving an opportunity to a lady from a Hubballi city in to serve this august organization. I sincerely thank my family who have whole heartedly supported all my IADVL KN endeavours. My sincere thanks to fellow colleagues in the Department of Dermatology, KIMS Hubballi and Hubballi-Dharwad Dermatology association. I also sincerely thank all my mentors and friends for their constant encouraging support and guidance.
The IADVL-KN is expanding in all directions. I would like to enhance the visibility and reputation of our association while staying true to our core values for the community.
For the year 2023-2024, apart from the number of educational programs planned throughout the year, my team wishes to take up Community Dermatology Service prominently.
I also sincerely request all our life members to enroll into the DVL Welfare Trust, which is a social security scheme from and for IADVL members.
I hereby would like to enlist my priorities for the year:

  • PLM enrollment and PLM to LM conversions
  • E-Voting enrollment
  • DVL Welfare Trust membership drive
  • President Appreciation Award
  • PG teaching – Derma Basics, Derma Advance, and ResiMed
  • Practicing members - fight against quackery, community programs, Yathartha 2.0 by involving dermatologists working as specialists in taluk hospitals to over come the challenges faced during practice, and making it convenient for them to interact with senior academicians and young dermatologists alike.
  • Community Dermatology activities:
    - MARGADARSHI is a flagship program which aims to educate and bring awareness amongst chemists, druggists and Pharmacists regarding the deep rooted menace of over the counter drug use and topical corticosteroids misuse and abuse.
    - ARIVU is another flagship program which aims to educate students in high schools, residential schools and colleges. I wish to create awareness about the harmful adverse effects of soliciting advises by influencers and beauty bloggers, misusing over the counter medicines/ topical corticosteroids/ depigmenting cream. I further wish to educate them about skin care and skin hygiene practices, which will in turn prevent many common dermatoses. I also hope, through this program, we can appraise to this gullible group that Dermatologists are the true skin experts who are qualified and board certified, and only they need to be consulted for skin diseases.

A tsunami of quackery has creeped into our speciality. I urge our own members from refraining to train and empower the so called Cosmetologists. We should uphold the dignity of our profession, specially for the younger generations of Dermatologists, and we need to practice ethically and responsibly, along with empathy towards our patients.
I also request members who routinely take part in various health checkup camps/ awareness campaigns along with organizations such as the IMA, Rotary, Lions Club, Red Cross, etc, to use the banner IADVL (with prior intimation and through proper channel) in order to facilitate a better recognition of IADVL among our peers as well.
I humbly invite you all to join us for CUTICON KN 2024, Chitradurga and Mid CUTICON KN 2024, Sakleshpur.
Finally, I whole heartedly welcome and encourage my fellows members to kindly reach out to me to share their ideas which would be helpful for the betterment of our beloved association.
I am sure with the able, efficient, and enthusiastic team, with the strong support from all past presidents, and with the experience and enthusiasm of Chairpersons and Conveners of IADVL Academy and all atanding committees, the current EC will take IADVL KN to greater height. I humbly seek your cooperation and support for the same.

Thank you all once again.
Long live IADVL!

Regards,
Dr. Mitaxari K Hugar
