Hon. Secretary's Message

Dr. Mahesh Kumar C

Dear IADVL members,
It is indeed my honour and humble privilege to step into the office of the Honorary Secretary General of the prestigious IADVL-KN, from the tables of which many stalwarts have worked for our ever growing association. Nothing is more satisfactory for me than contributing to our community in whatever scale possible for the betterment of our fellow members.
Dermatology in the past one and half decades has grown by heaps and bounds, from dealing with skin diseases it has spread its wings resulting in newer branches like Dermatosurgery, Aesthetic Dermatology, Trichology, Paediatric Dermatology, Dermatopathology, Allergy and Immunology. This has indeed extended the scope of our simple branch with immense contribution from senior to junior dermatologists alike. Newer special interest topics like Contact Dermatitis, Eczema, Hair transplantation, Threads and Permanent Make up are also doing their rounds on various platforms.
We are sadly still facing many challenges like topical corticosteroids abuse and misuse, over the counter medications use, fairness mania, stigmas against Vitiligo, AIDS, Leprosy, Psoriasis, and Baldness, quackery with non medicos and alternate sciences specialists along with doctors of different faculties setting up dermatology practices with not recognised and irrelevant degrees, having to justify to our patients why certain information broadcasted by influencers and beauty bloggers are wrong and harmful, among other similar issues; and are of serious concerns.
I urge that we as a community should support each other and move towards facing such challenges with well planned and strategic counter measures with an immense unity amongst our fraternity, with one of our main motto also being to improving the quality of life of our patients.
I am of the opinion that the way forward is to help our fraternity grow together by incorporating new skills aimed towards improved clinical dermatology care. We from IADVL-KN will be proudly continuing the rich academic program buffet by organising SIG Programmes, Yathartha, Kallike, our conferences, workshops and other similar programmes.
I also request all you members to actively participate and share your valuable opinions – any new ideas, suggestions are always welcome, which you may share with me directly or with any of the EC members.
Presidential Community Dermatology programs planned for this year are Margadarshi and Arivu. I request all sister societies to actively participate and contribute so that our programme will reach to the public across all districts of Karnataka.
I encourage my fellow members to take to social media and use the posts updated by the team to promote to the general public that IADVL dermatologists are the true skin specialists; and that they should consult only board certified and qualified dermatologists.
I further wish to impress upon my colleagues the benefits of enrolling as a DVL Welfare Trust member. It is a social security scheme for the IADVL members, by the IADVL members.
Finally, with all your cooperation and blessings, I wish to march towards achieving ‘Better Skin Care to All’.

Thanking you and Regards,

Dr. Mahesh Kumar C
Honorary Secretary General,
IADVL Karnataka
Long live IADVL!
